Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is a ‘sacrament’, that is, an outward and physical act which symbolises an inward and spiritual grace. It is popularly known as ‘Christening’. We can trace this Christian ritual back to the Baptism of Jesus himself in the River Jordan by S. John the Baptist.

Baptism marks the beginning of a person’s journey of faith as they are marked as Christians and are received into the body of the universal Church. It is the role of parents and/or Godparents to ensure that the candidate lives out this faith in their daily lives.

We welcome baptisms at all our churches. The baptism can either be held during the Sunday Mass, or at another time by agreed appointment with the vicar. If you are thinking about having your child baptised, or of being baptised yourself, in St Mary’s or any of the group churches, please get in touch with Fr David.

There is no cost for baptism although you may wish to give a donation. Further information about baptism can be found HERE.
